Less is More

To nurture the families of tomorrow, we need to take action today to protect our planet. We are acting to reduce food waste and send less plastics and packaging to landfills. From our landmark initiative to eliminate plastic grocery bags from our Sobeys stores, to launching the mobile app, FoodHero, in our IGA stores, we continue to make meaningful progress in reducing waste throughout our operations. We are also focused on how to make it easier for our valued customers to make more sustainable choices such as promoting reusable grocery and produce bags and sharing recipes to help reduce food waste at home. Looking ahead, we will continue to build on our momentum by accelerating our efforts towards achieving our goal to reduce food waste by 50% by 2025. At the same time, plastics and packaging will also continue to be a priority area, as we aim to eliminate or reduce single-use plastics and improve recycling across all our stores and distribution centres.

Plastics & Packaging

We actively apply the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – to reduce plastic and packaging waste and maximize diversion.
