Our partnership with Infarm redefines fresh, allowing customers to purchase live herbs grown right in our stores.
Infarm’s modular in-store farms produce fresh, nutritious and flavourful herbs all year round without the use of chemical pesticides. The plants are grown inside stores, dramatically reducing transportation-related carbon emissions. Infarm’s vertical farms use 95% less water, 90% less transportation and 75% less fertilizer than industrial agriculture.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Infarm to offer fresh herbs safely grown in store at two of our Safeway stores in British Columbia as of April 2020. We plan to bring this innovative farming technology to more stores in 2020 and 2021.

Led by CEO Arlene Dickinson, District Ventures brings capital, marketing, programming and commercialization to packaged-goods companies in the food, beverage and health industries. Many of these small businesses aim to improve our food system through choices that are better for consumers and better for the planet. Our Accelerator program provides the small business leaders with support such as coaching and opportunities to bring their products to our grocery store shelves.
